Hola! Welcome to Barcelona!

Eamon Lui surveys the water polo pool Piscines Bernat Picornell before training.

After landing in Barcelona yesterday morning we had our first training at Piscines Bernat Picornell, the official water polo game pool for the FINA World Championships. This pool was the swimming venue at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and will host 86 water polo games over the next  two weeks. The New Zealand Men’s first game is against the home team, Spain, on Monday 22 July at 21:30 local time.

A few days ago we went to Budapest to watch Montenegro vs Germany and Hungary vs Greece at the Vodafone Cup. NZ will be playing three of these teams in the next two weeks starting with a training match vs Hungary tonight (16 July). The kiwi’s will meet Montenegro and Greece in pool play at World Champs in Barcelona starting on 22nd July.

Congratulations to the following 13 players who are competing at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. The competition starts on July 22nd.
The team will be joined by a larger squad of players and also a strong support crew on their travels to Europe. The team leaves New Zealand today to begin a week long training camp in Eger, Hungary before heading to Barcelona. Good luck boys!
